Prof. Seda Keskin received the Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research Excellence in Review Award 2023

Bariscan Bozkurt, an M.S. student of Electrical-Electronics Engineering and a fellow of KUIS AI Center, and Alper T. Erdogan, Professor of Electrical-Electronics Engineering at KUIS AI Center, in collaboration with their co-authors Ates Isfendiyaroglu from UAA and Cengiz Pehlevan from Harvard University, recently presented their work titled ‘Correlative Information Maximization Based Biologically Plausible Neural Networks for Correlated Source Separation’ at ICLR 2023, a high-tier AI conference.

We are excited to highlight the groundbreaking work led by faculty member Assoc. Prof. Aykut Erdem, featuring the collaborative efforts of researchers at Koç University, Hacettepe University, and Adobe Research, recently accepted in ACM Transactions on Graphics.

Assoc. Prof. Didem Unat hosted the 6th International Workshop on Programming and Abstractions for Data Locality at Koç University from September 4 to 6, 2023.

The new paper demonstrating MnO2 nanoflowers for efficient photostimulation of neurons has been highlighted on the inside front cover of Advanced Science.

Asst. Prof. Fatma Güney from our Department of Computer Engineering has been awarded a Starting Grant by the European Research Council (ERC), with her project titled "ENSURE: Enabling Self-Driving in Uncertain Real Environments".

The research on miniaturized wireless sensor which enables real-time monitoring of food spoilage, conducted by Dr. Emin İstif (Molecular Biology and Genetics, Kadir Has University) who completed his postdoctoral studies at Koç University, and our own Asst. Prof. Levent Beker (Mechanical Engineering) with the contribution of Prof. İskender Yılgör and Dr. Emel Yılgör (Chemistry) and Asst Prof. Hatice Ceylan Koydemir (Texas A&M University) has been published in Nature Food Magazine.

Dr. Uğur Teğin, with the Caltech Optical Imaging team, demonstrated that optical bandit waves could occur spatially and temporally in next-generation lasers using the world’s fastest imaging system. Their work revealed that these infrequent and unpredictable giant optical waves produce high-quality ultra-short (femtosecond) laser pulses due to multidimensional and complex nonlinear visual effects.
