İş Bankası ve Koç Üniversitesi; ülkemizin bilimsel ve akademik faaliyetlerine katkıda bulunmak, yapay zekâ alanında ileri düzeyde çalışmalar gerçekleştirmek amacıyla “Yapay Zekâ Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi” kuruldu. Merkez; ülkemizdeki bilimsel ve akademik faaliyetlere katkıda bulunmayı, yapay zekâ alanında ileri düzeyde çalışmalar gerçekleştirmeyi amaçlıyor.

Metin Sitti Almanya’daki Max Planck Topluluğu’nun şu anki tek Türk üyesidir ve bu topluluğun Akıllı Sistemler Enstitüsü’nde 2014 yılının sonbaharından itibaren direktör olarak çalışmaktadır. Araştırmaları, tıbbi mikro-robotlar, doğadan esinlenen minyatür hareketli robotlar ve yeni malzemeler, yumuşak minyatür robotlar, fiziksel akıllılık ve mikro/nano-robotik da dahil olmak üzere, robotik ve akıllı sistemler bünyesindeki çok çeşitli çalışma konularını kapsamaktadır.

Dr. Murat Kuşçu who is one of our 2017 PhD graduates has been honoured to receive 2018 IEEE Türkiye PhD Thesis Award with the PhD thesis title “Nanoscale and Bio-inspired Communication Techniques for the Internet of Bio-Nano Things”.

Waleed Bin Qaim (Computer Science and Engineering, MSc., 2018) is a member of the Distributed Systems and Reliable Networks (DISNET) Research Laboratory headed by Prof. Öznur Özkasap. Congratulations to Waleed Bin Qaim and his advisor Öznur Özkasap.

Congratulations to Dr. Barış Yıldız, Asst. Professor of Industrial Engineering, who is the recipient of the 2018 SOLA (Informs – Section on Location Analysis) Dissertation Award.

Koç University BMSE Ph.D. student, Houman Jalali, won the Nanoscale Horizons Prize at the Tenth International Conference on Quantum Dots (QD 2018) in Toronto, Canada with his work titled “Synthesis of Bio-compatible Type-II InP/ZnO Quantum Dots”. In this work, he demonstrated neural interfaces using biocompatible Type-II quantum dots for the first time and the award was given by University of Toronto vice-president Professor Ted Sargent. Materials synthesis and characterization of this work were done in IDEALAB under supervision of Sedat Nizamgolu and the biocompatibility tests were carried out in Halil Kavakli Lab at Koç University.
